Business mogul, Walter Latham is often referred to as “The King of Comedy,” as he has made an indelible imprint in the evolution, creation and impact of urban comedy throughout the world. He is credited with launching the careers of several award-winning actors and comedians including, Tyler Perry, Chris Tucker, Steve Harvey, Mo’Nique, Cedric “The Entertainer,” and the late Bernie Mac.

In 2012, Latham partnered with YouTube on an urban comedy channel. The channel brings urban comedy to digital programming, 24/7, a historic milestone for urban comedy. It features content from Latham’s past productions featuring Bernie Mac, Tyler Perry, Mo’Nique and others as well as new content from Michael Blackson, Broken Equipment Productions and Tara “Miss P” Powell.

To date, Latham’s productions have grossed over $200 million worldwide.

Free Cyber Security Conference

The NCEC is proud to be a resource partner for the Cyber Security for Small Business Conference to be held on October 31 in the Elliott University Center’s Cone Ballroom at UNCG. This conference is presented free of charge for local small businesses by Sam’s Club and SCORE in association with the Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Greensboro Partnership. This informative program will begin at 8:00 am with networking and a continental breakfast. Sessions on how to protect your business from cyber threats and crime from leading experts such as the NC Attorney General’s Office, the FBI, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Secure Designs, Inc., UNCG’s Dept. of Computer Science, and Tech Triad will continue through the day and conclude with a Panel discussion.  Lunch and parking at UNCG are also included.

Paula McGarrell is the founder and co-owner of You Time Solutions (YTS), a concierge service that helps busy people find more time and get more done at home, work, during a project or crunch time. YTS is one of the region’s founding concierge services, as well as the largest in the Triad. McGarrell has been a guest expert on WFMY News 2, and speaks on Time Management and Organization Personalities to venues such as Project Management Institute, Professional Women of Winston Salem, Biscuitville Corporation, Phillips School of Business at HPU, Western Carolina University, and the Greater Greensboro Society of Medical Alliance. McGarrell also serves as a mentor with The Queen’s Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering at-risk young women through mentor-internship and educational outreach.

There will be sessions directed at all forms of art, some are more specific to writers, some to performers, including music, dance and theater, others for visual artists who create with traditional methods of painting and sculpture and also sessions dedicated to technology and media.
